Jesus Prayed in Anguish
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Was it safe to say that Jesus was scared of what was to come?
Jesus was God in human form. Because He was in human form, He was tempted just as we’re tempted. He had to resist temptation the way we’re supposed to resist temptation to sin. He has emotions just as we do. He felt pain just as we felt pain.
I wouldn’t say He was afraid because because He, to this day, reminds us not to be afraid. He knew His crucifixion would cause great agony and pain on Him. He no doubt knew what crucifixion did to a human body because there were probably a few before His because that’s how the Romans punished criminals.
I wouldn’t say He was afraid because He knew His Father’s plan from the beginning of time. It took a whole lot of courage to lay down His life for us. He wasn’t afraid because He could have called on His Father and a legion of angels would’ve came and got Him out of certain death. It took courage to take what He took so we could live in this present world and then eternally with Him.
