elder jr Brown preachingElder Evans Brown, Jr. closed out the month of July with a message that challenges all of us in the area of our actions matching what we say. He preached using a topic; “Are You An On Paper Christian?”

He preached from the text found in Isaiah 29:13 – Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men.

Elder Brown, Jr. warned us against doing things in the church out of tradition. Using examples of joining the church because my parents did, or doing things because my parents did isn’t what God honors. He pointed out how people can make their mouth say anything, but their actions don’t add up. When we say we love, we should show love and be supportive of one another. He said we can’t be like the people mentioned in the passage of scripture, honoring God with our lips, but our heart is not on Him at all.

Elder Brown, Jr. encouraged us to support the church and each other and be obedient to God and His appointed authority. We can want the things God has to offer, but we don’t want to do the things He asks us to do.

If you are in need to hear a word from the Lord that will encourage you and steer you in the right direction in your journey towards heaven, please join us on Sunday mornings for Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and our worship experience at 11:00 a.m. We also meet every Wednesday for Bible Study at 7:00 p.m.
